Overview
Surgical correction of pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction to restore normal urine drainage from the kidney.
Indications
Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction, symptomatic hydronephrosis, deteriorating renal function.
Procedure Details
The narrowed PUJ segment is excised and the renal pelvis is re-anastomosed to the ureter over a stent.
Recovery
Hospital stay 3-5 days. Stent removal in 4-6 weeks.
Risks & Considerations
Urine leak, stricture recurrence, bleeding, infection.
