Overview
Complete surgical removal of the prostate gland and seminal vesicles for localized prostate cancer.
Indications
Localized prostate cancer, life expectancy >10 years, patient preference for surgery.
Procedure Details
The prostate and seminal vesicles are removed with careful preservation of urinary sphincter and neurovascular bundles when oncologically safe.
Recovery
Hospital stay 2-5 days. Catheter for 1-2 weeks. Return to activities in 4-6 weeks.
Risks & Considerations
Urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, bleeding, anastomotic stricture.
