Overview

The gold standard endoscopic procedure for benign prostatic hyperplasia, removing obstructing prostate tissue through the urethra.

Indications

Moderate to large BPH (30-80g), failed medical therapy, urinary retention, recurrent UTIs.

Procedure Details

A resectoscope is passed through the urethra to resect prostate tissue using electrocautery, creating a channel for urine flow.

Recovery

Hospital stay 2-3 days. Catheter for 1-3 days. Return to activities in 2-4 weeks.

Risks & Considerations

Bleeding, TUR syndrome, retrograde ejaculation, urethral stricture, incontinence.
