Overview

RIRS uses a flexible ureteroscope to access and treat stones within the kidney through a retrograde (natural orifice) approach.

Indications

Renal stones <2cm, lower pole stones, patients on anticoagulation, obesity.

Procedure Details

A flexible ureteroscope is navigated into the kidney. Holmium laser fragments stones, and dust is allowed to pass naturally.

Recovery

Usually day-case or overnight stay. Return to activities in 2-3 days.

Risks & Considerations

Ureteric injury, infection, residual fragments, need for repeat procedure.
