Overview

TURBT is the primary diagnostic and therapeutic procedure for bladder tumors, performed endoscopically through the urethra.

Indications

Initial diagnosis of bladder tumor, non-muscle invasive bladder cancer, surveillance resections.

Procedure Details

A resectoscope is passed through the urethra to visualize and resect the tumor using electrocautery. Tissue is sent for pathological examination.

Recovery

Usually day-case or overnight stay. Catheter removed in 1-3 days.

Risks & Considerations

Bleeding, bladder perforation, urinary infection, tumor recurrence.
