Overview

Ureteroscopy uses a thin endoscope passed through the urethra and bladder to visualize and treat ureteric and lower renal stones.

Indications

Ureteric stones, lower pole renal stones <2cm, failed ESWL.

Procedure Details

A ureteroscope is advanced to the stone location. Laser lithotripsy fragments the stone, and fragments are extracted with baskets.

Recovery

Usually day-case procedure. Return to activities in 1-2 days.

Risks & Considerations

Ureteric injury, stricture, stone migration, infection.
