Overview

Open surgical removal of stones from the renal pelvis through an incision in the pelvis of the kidney.

Indications

Large pelvic stones, failed endoscopic treatment, anatomical abnormalities, staghorn calculi.

Procedure Details

A flank incision is made to access the kidney. The renal pelvis is opened and stones are extracted directly.

Recovery

Hospital stay 5-7 days. Return to normal activities in 4-6 weeks.

Risks & Considerations

Bleeding, urine leak, infection, residual stones.
