Surgical enlargement of the bladder using a segment of bowel to increase capacity and reduce pressure.

Indications

Neurogenic bladder, small capacity bladder, refractory overactive bladder, tuberculosis bladder.

Procedure Details

A segment of ileum or colon is detubularized and anastomosed to the opened bladder to increase capacity.

Recovery

Hospital stay 7-10 days. Long-term clean intermittent catheterization often required.

Risks & Considerations

Mucus production, metabolic disturbances, stone formation, perforation.
