Overview

Creation of a catheterizable channel using the appendix to allow clean intermittent catheterization through the abdominal wall.

Indications

Neurogenic bladder requiring catheterization, urethral abnormalities, wheelchair-bound patients.

Procedure Details

The appendix is mobilized and reimplanted into the bladder with a continence mechanism, with the other end brought to the skin.

Recovery

Hospital stay 7-10 days. Channel maturation over 4-6 weeks.

Risks & Considerations

Channel stenosis, incontinence, stone formation, difficulty catheterizing.
